Worlds hardest steel finalist at TCT Awards
Our newly released material Vibenite® 290, the World’s Hardest Steel, has been nominated as a finalist at the TCT Awards 2018 – Non-polymers. The winner will be announced at the TCT Congress on September 26th in Birmingham, England. Keep your fingers crossed and do what more than 3000 people already have, watch our video about this one of a kind steel!

Successful Dritev Congress 2018
In June we spent two busy days at the Dritev Congress in Bonn, where many contacts were initiated. Our wear resistant, deep-cutting gear hob generated a lot of interest. It actually has double life time and double feed rate compared to the “traditional” gear hobs at a large Swedish manufacturer. Have a look at the results below!

Article on Vibenite®-properties presented at NordTrib
Per Söderbäck from Uppsala University, Ångström Laboratory, has presented the article ”Abrasion resistance of new wear resistant AM steels” at  the NordTrib conference in Uppsala. In the paper, the abrasive resistance of Vibenite® alloys with different levels of hardness was compared to traditionally made steels and cemented carbides.

The results show that Vibenite® is fully in par with the best PM steels on the market, but also that the abrasion mechanisms are smooth and controllable, resulting in lower wear rates than the cemented carbides which showed severe chipping due to their low toughness.

Uppsala has launched ”Material X” project
Earlier this summer, it was announced that the Uppsala region has launched the project Material X to support the development of sustainable materials. Additive manufacturing is one of the corner stones in efficient energy use and reduction of climate impact, which is why VBN Components is a key player in this project, where Uppsala aims to take the lead in the development of future sustainable materials.


GIA Research explores trend of Superhard Materials
In July, Global Industry Analysts published a report predicting a growing demand for superhard materials. VBN Components is mentioned as one of the companies driving this trend, expected to grow steadily until 2024.
