Newsletter June 2021

This time we are sharing our news from our new, spacious facility. As some of you know we recently moved to three times larger premises to make room for our growing staff and continuous expansion. We are now even closer to Sweden’s main airport Arlanda, which makes it very convenient for those of you who wish to stop by! The summer holidays are approaching and before we close, we would like to share our latest news with you, and also inform you that our common email info@vbncomponents.com will be continuously supervised during our short break in mid-July.

VBN Components receives breakthrough order from the US military

Our wear-resistant materials have attracted the interest of the US Armed Forces, who have chosen to evaluate three of the Vibenite® alloys. As our CEO Johan Bäckström stated: ”This order is of significant importance to us as it may lead to follow-up orders from sub-suppliers of the United States Armed Forces, but also from many other actors – for instance, in Europe.” Read more in METAL AM Magazine.

Finalisation of project Mac AM

We have previously shared news on the project MacAM that was initiated to optimise and create standards for post processing of AM materials. VBN’s Vibenite® materials were chosen for the project financed by Sweden’s innovation agency Vinnova and executed with partners Swerim, Sandvik Coromant and 3M. Existing data has now been compiled into complete guidelines, and experiments have been carried out to gain new knowledge. All guidelines will be found on Swerim’s website shortly.

Can materials make the world more sustainable?

Most of you are familiar with VBN’s YouTube account by now. Our videos have been watched by tens of thousands of people, so make sure to become a follower and take part of our updates! Producing in a sustainable way is always good, but it is even better if what has been produced can keep on running over and over and over… The improved performance of components and the reduction of industrial waste when switching to Vibenite® materials are two features highlighted in the new video.

VBN collaborates with Wayland Additive and Exergy Solutions

In the beginning of May it was made official that the Vibenite® series of materials are being used by Canadian engineering company Exergy Solutions, and that they will soon be printed with Calibur3 machines from UK based Wayland Additive. The possibility to create large geometrically complex parts with extreme fatigue resistance and full hardness all the way through were strong reasons to choose VBN and Vibenite® for the partnership.

Billy Rideout, CEO, at Exergy concludes. “The alliance between Exergy, Wayland, and VBN means that we are able to offer significant customer benefits. With support from VBN, Exergy can now supply full-service design, manufacturing, and qualification support for large parts with complex geometries made from materials that are difficult or impossible to machine. This in turn means longer component lifetimes, with the entire part (not just specific areas of the part) made from highly wear resistant materials.” Read more on 3dprint.com.

Webinar at AEFA 2021 event

AEFA France Additive 275x300 1

The French interest in Vibenite® alloys is high. VBN’s most recent encounter with France was the AEFA 2021 online conference, organised by France Additive in the beginning of June. This time we focused on presenting information about the alloys’ high fatigue resistance. You can still get a glimpse of the program on the AEFA website.

Previously, the French researchers Christophe Grosjean and Christophe Reynaud at the Technological Institute Cetim have analysed the Vibenite® 150 alloy in a punching test, which showed extremely good performance.
